LtGen William "Mark" Faulkner (USMC, Ret.) is a highly accomplished military leader and defense expert with over 35 years of service in the United States Marine Corps. Throughout his distinguished career, he has held several high-profile positions, including Commanding General of the 3D Marine Logistics Group (MLG) and Major General on the Joint Staff J-4, where he led global logistics coordination for joint military operations across multiple combatant commands.
In his final role before retirement in 2015, LtGen Faulkner served as Deputy Commandant for Installations and Logistics (I&L) at Headquarters Marine Corps, overseeing all Marine Corps facilities, infrastructure, and logistics operations worldwide. His leadership in managing assets valued at over $100 billion and ensuring mission readiness globally is a testament to his operational expertise and strategic foresight.
Currently, LtGen Faulkner is the President of the Institute for Defense and Business (IDB), where he drives strategic initiatives focused on defense innovation and technology commercialization. He also serves as a board member at Global Defense, Inc. (GDI), where he provides strategic insight into the development of advanced defense technologies, including GDI’s proprietary Global Defense Asset Management (GDAM) system. His extensive background in military logistics and infrastructure, combined with his leadership in defense technology innovation, has been pivotal in guiding GDI’s strategic direction.
In addition to his role at GDI, LtGen Faulkner is a member of the Board for Innovation at East Carolina University (ECU), supporting initiatives that foster defense-related research and innovation.
LtGen Faulkner holds a Master of Science in Strategic Studies from the Industrial College of the Armed Forces, a Master of Business Administration from Chaminade University, and a Bachelor of Arts from East Carolina University. His career is marked by a deep commitment to advancing military capabilities and driving innovation in the defense sector.
